Tuesday's State Council executive meeting approved the Government Work Report (GWR) task list (Gov.cn 1).
Now the big question is: Will they make it public?
ICYDK: The list is an implementation guide for government departments, outlining their responsibilities and deadlines for the year's policy priorities.
- That makes it an important resource for evaluating how policy will unfold in the year ahead.
Well, at least, it was an important resource: Before 2023, the State Council issued the list publicly.
- Then, in 2023, under the new Premier Li Qiang, it didn't (Gov.cn 2).
Get smart: Historically, the task list is usually published a couple of weeks after the State Council approves it.
- Whether or not they do so will go a long way in telling us whether the government plans to make good on its stated aim to make the policy environment more consistent and predictable.
